"This 2003 release from a 7-woman acappella ensemble from our very own hometown of Durham NC features 16 songs covering the range of the group's musical enthusiasms: folk/traditional, gospel, doo-wop, pop, Celtic, sea chantey, and a few unusual numbers they describe as 'compulsively eclectic' - such as Emoni Ennen, a traditional Finnish song in the difficult (and dead) Old Karelian dialect. The songs showcase their creamy harmonies on tunes such as the Jerome Kern standard The Way You Look Tonight... mastery of unusual rhythms and keys on Maggie Roche's Cloud Dancing... and lush blending on the dreamily melancholy Sweet Jane, an arrangement by the group Two Nice Girls of songs by Lou Reed and Joan Armatrading. There's even an original tune from Stella member Alison Jones, She's a Rocket, inspired by her 12-year-old daughter."
